Woollahra streets

via SP

Heavily missing these Woollahra streets this month.  I love this time of year in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and that gorgeous purple - vibrant and lilac all at the same time.  Thanks SP, for making me thoroughly homesick.

Breathe it in

Feeling a little fuzzy this weekend, but this image is so vivid you can almost breathe in that lavender and inhale away all the madness.  You know I love me some deep purple.

Girlcrush: Emma Stone

Emma Stone at the premiere of Gangster Squad (which I sort of can't wait to see), resplendent in red and that beautiful, big statement necklace.

Acquisitions: floral silk

via Shopbop

Everyone knows I'm a sucker for a silk tank, especially one by Joie.  This season I'm expanding my horizons to their silk summer shirts.  You can buy it online here.  Be still my beating heart, it also comes in a blazer.  You know how I dig the floral.

If any man I know could pull off this DSquared2 green velvet silk lapel jacket, well...nothing more to say.

First Lady of fashion: Mobama wins our votes (and hearts) too

Top 5 Mobama looks from the 2012 Campaign

Custom made Tracy Reese dress and J.Crew heels on the 1st day of the DNC.  This is far and away my favourite.  What I (and it seems all the real fashion commentators) love about this dress, is that it absolutely reflects who she is.  Read about it here and here.  I love the description from the New York Times's Eric Wilson: "From a distance, the dress had a shimmering effect, like wet paint in a blast of unreadable pastels, but in close-ups, viewers could practically study the pattern of the gold brocade."

Dresses aside, the speech she gave was brilliant - you should remind yourself how awesome she is by watching it here or reading the full transcript here

As a friend of mine posted on Facebook yesterday: "Hilary/[M]Obama 2016" - if only!

Preen at the First Debate.

Thom Browne at the Third Debate

I've not been able to find a better picture than these of Obama at a DC book signing.  But it's a killer.  Brooks Brother silk sweater with keyhole, J.Crew pencil skirt and Alexis Bittar brooch.

BCBG MAXAZARIA

And some other favourites, just for fun:

Keen observors will have noticed she recycled this Michael Kors dress, complete with black cardi (but a different brooch) for election night.  As many commentators said, this was symbolic of an entire campaign trail filled with more austere (but still fashionable) fashion choices, reflecting her husband's economic policies and a little more cognisant of the tough times many of their public were facing.

Sherbet - how on trend!

Rocking the flats with gingham.

In Chris Benz

In DVF prepping for the DNC.

In Laura Smalls - final day of the DNC

In Michael Kors at the second debate - comes in close for the top 5.

Speaking of metallics

I would totally rock this light gold jacket Sarah Jessica Parker wore recently for fall in NYC...but also feel like you could work it for the cooler days of spring.  Thanks to the incredibly sharp eyes of Helicious, it's from Zadig and Voltaire - you can purchase it here.

LFW: Burberry Prorsum

So I'm obsessed about pretty much everything to do with this collection.  Do yourself a favour and see the whole collection here.  From the neon gold shoes to the capelets to the reworked rainbow metallica trenches.  Commentary on Style.com implied it was showy and more about entertainment but I can't agree.  Christopher Bailey is a gorgeous genius and this is my favourite show of the season so far.  Totally in keeping with the Burberry look but with all the things I love: hot, bold colours, capes, rocking silhouettes and all still super chic.

LFW: Burberry explosion

There are no words.  Yet still, the Burberry show deserves a post of its own.  Wait and you shall receive.  Christopher Bailey, you gorgeous genius.

Duchess in Prabal

KMidd rocking one of my favourite looks from Prabal Gurung last spring - this collection was just divine; the prints, the purple and the textures - what's not to like?

Outfit of the week

No, for once this a male outfit of the week.  It's a couple of months old now, but I came across it and couldn't resist posting.  I'm pretty sure you can't pull this off anywhere but a red carpet.  The cut and colour of the suit are quite impeccable/incredible.

Neon accents

via SimmoHQ

Simmo's sister from another mother, Meg, working the neon trend.  Love this, especially paired with classic chic - long brown hair tousled and out, falling over a white shirt and a blazer.

Red hot cover up

 via my blackberry

Long before colour pop was in my gorgeous friend Claire was rocking the hot red/orange/pink accent in her outfits - well back into our uni days.  So it should have come as no surprise when  Claire turned up to farewell drinks this afternoon in a smashing red purchase from her time in London.  It (and her outfit) was the perfect combo between Rachel Barry and Parisian chic.  I may have squealed over its awesomeness a little longer than was necessary.  Sorry Claire.  You are quite the hispter.

L'homme: colour (leg) block

via 00o00, my blackberry, All Things Stylish and StreetFSN

A rather debonair man asked me this weekend to help investigate the perfect pair of coloured trousers. With the above inspiration (including running into a well-dressed man in bright orange chinos, a crisp white shirt and blue v-neck sweater on the street in Woollahra) I've kept my eye out and have tracked down a few fun summer leg colours:

1. Herringbone jet chino skinny trouser in blue, orange or what I like to call, raspberry, available in winter colours here, and in summer colours instore (update your website, Herringbone!):

2.  Country Road slim chino in spearmint (also in yellow), available here.  While I dig the spearmint, I've seen the Herringbone trousers on, and I think they look to be a better cut than these.  These are probably the most casual of the bunch.

3.  JCrew sun-faded chino in 484 fit in deep peacock (or for added fun, rusty brick!) available here (and yes, JCrew now ships to Australia!)  I'm really quite in love with these, but you know I'm partial to any colour that reminds me of the Mediterranean sea.  I also dig the broken-in chino in urban slim fit in cabernet available here.  But then, nowadays I love sort of everything JCrew does - thank you, Jenna Lyons, you are the ultimate girl crush.

4.  Topman skinny chinos (sounds like a coffee order?) in nautical blue or pale burgundy available here and here, respectively.  These feel a little casual in comparison to the Herringbone and JCrew styles, but less so than the Country Road cut.

  5.  And, because you know how I love to shop in New York and you can always online shop (from left to right):
  • Alexandre Mattiusi chinos in burgundy available at Barneys,
  • Lanvin side stripe chinos in electrical blue available at Barneys, though, quite frankly: seen better here
  • Also loving Steven Alan (a fave of the NYC Duas) New Yukon pants in salmon or green at Saks.
  • But, probably my favourite on the NYC scene are Rag and Bone vintage reds available here

The winners for me?  Rag and Bone's vintage reds, JCrews sun-drenched peacock blue and subject to seeing them on, the Herringbone jet chinos in any colour.
